death sentence

My poor car has received a death sentence. The dome light? Who knows. It’s not the switches and the solution is to pull the fuse, as that’s the least of the car’s trouble. The wheel bearing seems to be going bad. The radiator – a year and a half old – is all gunked up. A symptom, they say, of a bad head gasket. I’ve been waiting for the transmission to go. And don’t forget that the compressor is long dead. Oh, and the tires need replacing although they are only a couple years old. Plus it needs an oil change but that seems pretty pointless, doesn’t it?

Anyone have a car they want to give me?

  1. CRAP!! If you could get to WA you could have my husband’s CJ-7 Jeep, if you can handle the tricky clutch. Not a comfortable ride though. That stinks about the car. I’m worried that mine is going to start giving me trouble–the budget doesn’t stretch that far these days.

  2. I think you are right, Zazzy, don’t bother with the oil change. Can you get away with patching up a while longer?

  3. Well, phooey! Stupid car. I like Polly’s idea– patch it up, use bubble gum if you have to!

I wish I could, I really do. It’s been limping for about a year and a half and I’ve looked at old and new cars during that time to know what I could expect to spend around here. I found an acceptable car with reasonable mileage today and I’m too stressed out to waste a lot of time looking and comparing. My dad has used this dealership for his last several cars and always felt like they treated him well.

I can’t afford car payments of any sort at the moment. Dad agreed to loan me the money and I’m not comfortable writing a check for him POA for this amount so he signed the check. I don’t want to take advantage of him and borrowing this stresses me out since I have no immediate means of paying him back and also since he’s already forgotten that he agreed. My poor old car will likely get hauled away as junk. It developed a new and exciting noise this morning that is probably a belt gone bad or slipped.
